People always say stuff like that when someone has died. One of the kids I went to high school with was shot in the head and killed after driver’s ed class. He provoked one of the alternative school kids who was also attending class because he was a “dirtball”, dude got sick of it and wasted him. He was a preppy, bullying, prick asshole and everyone hated him before he died, the kind of guy who would knock your books out of your hands, then threaten to beat you up if you said anything about it. People couldn’t say enough nice things about him after he was gone, though. Both the school and city made him out to be one of the nicest dudes ever, a model student. The school dedicated a new water fountain to him after it happened. It’s since been yanked out.

Yeah it’s just that I end up hearing people say that he was such a nice guy and was so kind to them. But I guess that’s how these guys are, they’re super nice to anyone they stand to gain something from. I’m sure if you were a booking promoter or ran a label or wrote for a popular blog or offered some other stepping stone on his way to rockstardom, he was probably nice as hell to you.

You feel bad for his family and friends, then go on thinking he was a dick. Death doesn’t change anything.
